I am trying to install windows 8 on my sony vaio.

it supports uefi and legacy modes but when I select the drive during installation, it says windows cannot be installed to this drive. it has gpt partition(in legacy mode) and it does not boot from installation media in uefi mode.

can anyone tell me where the problem is ???

The error have two situation,

Your PC boot with UEFI mode, but your harddrive is not configured for UEFI mode.

Your PC boot with BIOS mode, but your harddrive is configured for UEFI mode.

This can be caued compatibility problem.

To resolve this problem, the better choice is choose the mode which compatible.
