windows installer tries to open a non-existent program
Hello, When I try to open some programs in XP, I get a "Window's Installer" window that says: "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable". The feature that it is looking for is: "C:\program files\earthlink setup\windows\access\".I have to close the box tree times (as it returns) and then it goes away and the chosen program opens. This earthllink program was removed from the computer previously. My questionis this: Why is windows installer looking for this program and how can I stop this action? Can anyone help me?Thank you, victor1244 1 person got this answerI do too

Hello Debleena S, I have tried method 1 and the a & b lines work. The c line puts the problem back. So I have executed a & b and left it alone. Method 2 puts the problem back Method 3 was performed awhile ago and Earthlink no longer is on the computer, except in the add/remove list.It appears 6 or 7 times an the list, but when you click on one of them there are no options to do anything with them. Is there a way to remove them from the list? Thank you for solving my problem, victor1244

Hello Debleena S, it's me again. I am perplexedwith this problem. Just short of wiping the drive clean and reinstalling XP. As I have stated previously, the"msiexec /unreg" command fixes the problem, but causes other problems, ie: not able to install programs. The "msiexec /regserver" command allows me to add programs, but the original problem comes back. I also went into the registry, but I could not find any keys that referenced "Earthlink". Is there a way to access windows installer and change it's settings? Sorry to be a pest and thanks for your help and patience, victor1244
