Hi sugermae, This problem may occur if the Windows Update SoftwareDistribution folder has been corrupted. We can refer to the following steps to rename this folder. Please note that the folder will be re-created the next time we use Windows Update. 1. Close all the open windows. 2. Click the start button, click All programs, and click Accessories. 3. Right-click Command Prompt, and click Run as administrator. 4. In Command Prompt window, type net stop WuAuServ and press Enter. Note: Please look at the cmd window and make sure it says that it was successfully stopped before we try to rename the folder. 5. Click the start button, type %windir% in the search box and press Enter. 6. In the opened folder, look for the folder named SoftwareDistribution. 7. Right-click the folder, select Rename and type SDold to rename this folder. 8. Still in Command Prompt window, type the command net start WuAuServ to restart the Windows Updates service. Note: Please look at the cmd window and make sure it says that it was successfully started. Now, let's try to run Windows Update again. Hope it helps. Styx

Hi, Please let me know if only one update failed or several updates failed with error code 0x80070057? First, make sure Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer Service are running properly. After that, run System Update Readiness Tool and System Files Checker to check the result http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 Best Regards, NikiPlease remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
