windows ultimate not registered after latest upgrade
I have had 7 ultimate for over a year and it is on auto upgrade, after the last auto upgrade yesterday the version and product key is now blocked by microsoft. I purchased it sealed and unopened from a retailer in Brisbane and I have the discs. How
do I get it unblocked. when I installed it I registered it with Microsoft. Is this a virus? . I tried entering the Product code but still says it is blocked by Microsoft. Also the microsoft help lines for Australian customers have been disconnected so at present
we can't contact microsoft unless we pay for it.

it has been on auto udate ever since the install on the 7 / 04/ 2011 so what is it with the 45 days? It appears to me that MS is scaming for money to sell more products by telling people their windows is fake when it is purchased honestly. It seems we
have to go by their say so and there is no way we can check them as they are judge and jury and can say and do as they please. I am angry at this as for over a year it is all ok and then all of a sudden it is illegal according to MS so I have to spend more
money with them. As if you keep receipts for 14 months on home purchases.

It's possible that the situation was brought to light by a number of things -
1) you installed SP1, and that broke a hacker's activation exploit
2) the AV upgrade/update and following scan broke a hacker's activation exploit
3) you validated the machine, and the validation process discovered the 'bad' Key and PID.
4) The Windows Activation Technologies system rechecked the licensing, and discovered the 'bad' Key and PID. Such checks happen when the WAT update is installed, and at least every 90 days thereafter.
Here's my standard spiel on the time-delays involved in tagging abused keys....
For MSDN Keys:- MS can only act once a key hits a threshold (and they won't tell an outsider what that threshold is, understandably). They then have to put it through internal systems to ensure that all relevant parties are informed, just
in case it's an oversight - then it enters the queue for the next update to the system. I have no idea how often the WAT checking system is updated, but I would suspect that it's no more than weekly because of admin and timing issues. The internal MS processes
could therefore take easily a couple of weeks. It therefore depends on how close to the end of a vendors sales list you are, and how quickly he's selling them. The cannier ones will sell just enough to stay under the threshold for each product (MSDN subs include
a huge number of products), until they've maximised the profits, then try and flood the market before disappearing into the sunset, laden with your cash. This could take anything up to a year or more.
For products sold using a loader:- The loader gets around online activation by fooling the computer into thinking that the OS is installed onto the correct machine, by modifying certain files. Because of a number of factors, it's impossible
to stop this, so MS came up with the WAT update - which has the ability to scan the relevant files, and detect the use of a loader tool. If the user fully updates the machine, including recommended updates and optional updates, then the WAT update is installed
and starts work, and within 3 days, a loader-installed machine will get a notification. However, the WAT update is a voluntary one, at least at the first update run, and can be uninstalled, or refused The other time the WAT update is installed, is when you
validate Windows for some reason - it is part of the validation process, rather than the activation process. this time, it does the scan immediately, and again this will show as non-genuine if a Loader is present. If a user never needs/wants to validate, then
they need never install the WAT update, and may never see a non-genuine notification.

The box was sealed, the seal on the box was unbroken, I was the first one to open it, the 2 discs inside the case are MS gold hologram on the outside with the funny shape you can't possably get any where else. I installed it and registered it and it activated
like it should. It may seem that MS has a problem where someone hacking can get the codes and then activate non gnuine copies using genunine discs codes. So If I go and buy another one it seems that I could have the same problem in a years time or even
less. It seems to be a security problem from MS and they need to fix it. I will not buy another one unless MS can give me 100% guarantee that it will not be blacklisted in the future, it seems that they cannot do this at present as anyone buying a MS
windows product it looks like it can be hacked. Or MS is creating a scam to sell more online uploads, and bypass the retailers, I would hope the latter is not true.

Thanks, I am also sending a letter to the ACCC ( http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/142 )and asking them to investigate Microsoft and they way they go about doing what they did. I think it is wrong and I think it is not honoring their product
as Hervey Norman is a well respected and is a Microsoft dealer. I have purchased my last 3 computers and 4 printers plus other products from them as well as MS office 2010 from them. I only buy HP products and I have only purchased genuine MS software
in sealed packages with sealed inner cases. MS has got it wrong with me and I think they have got it wrong with a lot of others where they just state that software in non genuine and turn it off just so they can sell someone new software and make even bigger
profits. Anyone reading this thread and this has happened to you, I urge you to also send a letter to the ACCC.

Microsoft does not profit when a person buys counterfeit Microsoft software. Perhaps Mr. Hervey Norman changed suppliers and that's how he ended by with the non-genuine Microsoft software. Unfortunately, it happens all the time. You
need to submit a confidential
Counterfeit Software Report and let the Microsoft Anti-Piracy Team investigate. You may be entitled to a complimentary, genuine edition of Windows 7.Carey Frisch

In Australia to validate on line is ;
Choose your edition of Windows 7. (Which version is right for me?)

$269.00
and in the United States where the US Dollar is under the Australian Dollar.
Choose your edition of Windows 7. (Which version is right for me?)

$199.00
It is $70 cheaper. But you get the same product from the same portal.
Keep in mind I have already paid MS for this in hard copy 12 months ago at $448 ( I think from memory) over the counter at Australia's biggest Retailer.

I will send this thread to harvey Norman I am sure they will be interested in a representative from MS saying that they sold or are selling counterfit products. Harvey Norman is the largest Retailer in Australia and is the largest Electronics Retailer
in Australia. Dare I say it I think he may even be the Largest seller of MS products over the counter in Australia. What you are not getting is that this product worked fine for over 12 months and had automatic upgrades every week and checked for autmatic
upgrades every week, It never failed at any upgrade except the last one where the explination is that the code is suppose to have been used on too many computers somewhere in that week and MS's solution is to close down mine which is the one that was purchased
honestly. and Now MS is pointing the finger everywhere else but at itself. Attacking your customer and attacking your supplier does not solve this problem. Falt lies squarly at MS and its security. I can send you photos of my discs and of the boxes and
of the seal. MS Australia can even come over and look at them and see that it is the one loaded on my PC. A very low act to blame your retailer..
