windows xp: SP3 download failed. access denied. doregistryupdate failed. lost internet connection. DNS failed.
Tryed updating to Service Pack 3. Got failure error. Security access failed, access denied. Said click ok to uninstall. Did it. Lost internet connection. (Actually not sure had it before starting update, but would update start with out it?) Ran windows xp diagnostic. Log said: DNS failure. Gateway had valid IP address, renewed successfully. Stated DNS failure, could be Gateway or Windows. Also becauseof access denied with download of SP3, checked doregistryupdate failed. It failed and had a lot of PruneCatalog...Hotfixes.... failures. Now what do I do to fix this?1 person needs an answerI do too

Reinstall the network adapter drivers to solve the connectivity problem. For the "access denied" problem with SP3: Error message when you try to install WinXP SP3: "Access is denied" or Service Pack installation did not complete http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377 See - http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/reset-the-registry-and-the-file-permissions-in-windows-xp/ MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

We are experiencing the same issue. I ran the registry settings giving administrator full access, but it's failing on the registry key below. subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=fAlthough Administrator has full rights to HKLM\Security\ I still can't access HKLM\Security\Policy\Secrets\SAI or HKLM\Security\Policy\Secrets\SAC. Has anyone seen/experienced this? Any guidance is appreciated.
