Disable other security software whilst you are doing scans. http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

thanks to both of your replies. I ran Malwearbytes nothing found, have not found anything with intel active in the machine, well continue to look. Thanks AgainPerhaps a small clarification is needed. The wireless adapter needs to be "managed" in order for it to connect to wireless networks. The chip manufacturer -- in your case Intel -- has supplied a utility to do that. zcfgsvc.exe is part of that and for that reason stopping it using Task Manager causes your wireless adapter to stop working.Microsoft ALSO supplies a utility to manage wireless adapters and includes it in Windows XP. This is called Wireless Zero Configuration or WZC and there are various files that make it up, including wzcsvc.dll.Although there must be a utility active to manage the wireless adapter, there can only be one utility active at the same time. Thus, most manufacturer-supplied utilities have an option, somewhere in their "Preferences" or "Settings" menu to be turned off in favor of Windows WZC. I don't use Intel PRO/Set, so I don't know exactly where it is, but if you right click on the PRO/Set icon in the System Notification area (next to the clock display) you should see a way to enter the Preferences for the utility. As far as Windows WZC is concerned, open Network Connections (Start > Run > ncpa.cpl > OK), right click on the icon for your wireless adapter, and select Properties. Click the "Wireless Networks" tab and at the top you will see a check box to "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings."MVP Jack has a write-up here: http://www.ezlan.net/wzc.html
